Friends! I have some great news! Actually, I have some crazy awesome news. I will be living and working in PARIS!! For about two months this summer and fall, I will be living and working in one of the most fabulous cities in the world.
What can I say?! This is a dream come true. So you can imagine how excited I am to start planning now to make this move a success. The moment I decided to become a photographer, I knew I wanted to live and work all over the world. And this year, I will finally be doing it. We’ll be living and working in Europe, Asia, and America. Yes, I know. I want to have my cake and eat it, too. I can’t help it! The world is such a vast and beautiful place. I want to photograph it ALL.
But as you can imagine, packing up and moving to Paris for a few months is no small ordeal. So I’m sharing with you one of my TOP travel secrets: Planning a travel capsule wardrobe. How do you look fashionable, feel comfortable, and yet manage to keep it simple?! Over the years, I’ve practically perfected the skill of packing lightly. Because I refuse to check luggage when I travel AND because I believe that simplicity is the key to happiness, a travel capsule wardrobe is essential for me.
Over the next few months, I will give you TONS of top travel tips. And in the spirit of keeping it simple, I’ll start with one of my favorite topics EVER: the capsule wardrobe.
Here’s my three tips for planning the perfect capsule wardrobe for your trip:
Third: When you go shopping, it’s important that you only buy what’s on your list. Resist the urge to buy something just because it’s cute! You’ll regret that over-stuffed bag the minute you leave your house.
At first, it can seem daunting. Who sits down and plans out this kind of thing BEFORE going shopping? I know, it can seem counter-intuitive at first.
But I’ve been following the capsule wardrobe model for two years now, and I LOVE it! I will never go back! The alternative is to go shopping and buy on whim. And that leaves you, often, with mis-matched pieces that don’t work. Worse yet, you waste money on things you may only wear once or twice, instead of creating a wardrobe from scratch — and creating a wardrobe that you LOVE.
And that’s the point, right?! We all need more joy in our lives . . . and building a wardrobe that sparks joy is what it’s all about.
Go forth and live straight from your heart.
